EIBT Brand - Innovative Technology-Based Company

The EIBT Brand is a specific program which each SME offers to the Innovative Tecnology-Based Companies located in its surroundings. The main aim of this programme is to make these SMEs to be nationally recognised as EIBTs.
The EIBT Brand is a recognisable, distinguish and communicative element. SMEs that have the EIBT Brand are nationally recognised as EIBTs and they are supported by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
In order to get the brand, you have to justify the technological base of your company. Moreover, it must have a national innovation level, contrasted and differential. That is why there is in every region a lot of technological-based companies that have not the EIBT Brand, much more than those that already are EIBTs.
The function of the EIBTs is basic and strategic as a mechanism of the regions' econocmic development since they are able to transform into business activity the ability of innovation and technological development of the actors that are working on it: universities, laboratories, technological centres and companies.
The EIBTs are important for the economy because:
-They transform into business activity the ability of innovation and technological development of universities, laboratories, technological centres and companies.
-They are mostly boosted by high-qualified young entrepeneurs who enrich the business community of the region.
-They keep important ties and collaborations with Universities and Technological Centres.
-They create high-quality jobs with a skilled staff.
-Innovation and Development (I+D) is the key in their business model and they make a great effort to have not only human but also economic resources.
-They have a great national and international development potential.
-They contribute to the improvement in the trade balance, since they are companies which produce high value added goods and services and they are able to export and/or replace imports.
-The local economic is provided with diversification and complementarity thanks to the EIBTs.
-They allow the region to develop through the generation of their own economic wealth which is exportable to the sectors of the future guaranteeing a sustainable development over time.
As for the documentation that companies should submit, it is essential to fulfill a form in which the idea and the development team which includes market analysis, description of the product and technology, human team and financial analysis as well as the innovation checklist are presented.
In relation to the requirements of the applicant companies, they should be:
- companies related to BICs, promoted by natural persons or SMEs
- companies which are already established and have started business (with sales or, at least, with enough resources to generate economic activity). There is no limit in relation to age.
- companies which have a high degree of innovation obtaining a minimum innovation checklist score of 650 points . The checklist is the recognised tool for the assessment. The process consist on pondering every measurement concept of innovation and technological basis of the company and its subvariables (origin, protection of the innovation, degree of change, I+D+i ratio, and so on) .
- companies which operate in high-tech sectors and make an investment in I+D+i higher than average.
The steps to follow to apply the brand only have to be to comply with the previously indicated requirements and contribute complimented forms 1, 2 and 3, regardless as to the age of the interested company in applying the brand, for this reasons the form 4 is not necessary. .
Every year through the National Association ANCES, each BIC will continue with the task to evaluate companies of its region, that are predisposed to obtain the brand, and propose them to the evaluation commission (in which the The Centre for Industrial Technological Development -CDTI- participates) in order to this companies obtain the condition of EIBT. This committee evaluates quarterly the projects and companies carefully and approves or denies the EIBT condition. Once a company gets this qualification, they can make use of the brand freely.
The ANCES Awards for Creation and Establishment of Innovative Technology-Based Companies (EIBT) are annually convened. Only companies that have the EIBT Brand would be awarded with this prize.
A total of 299 EIBT brands have been given since 2001.
