BIC Euronova, the European Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Malaga, in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), announces the second edition of this ambitious incubation programme to support innovative SMEs. The initiative aims to foster the creation of new companies through an incubation programme, while strengthening digital security among Spain’s population and market.
The selection process for entrepreneurs and start-ups for the incubation programme is scheduled to take place over the coming weeks, with training and mentoring starting on 27 October and running for five weeks, at a pace of two morning sessions per week (4.5 hours each). In addition, participating companies will receive a number of one-to-one consulting hours on legal and tax matters, labour and accounting management/advisory issues, as well as guidance from an expert mentor.
Eligibility requires business ideas with a digital component in which cybersecurity is a relevant aspect—either because it is the core business, with innovative products or services, or because it is key to their activity (e.g. online sales) and they must apply cybersecurity to secure customers’ digital environments.
Individuals whose entrepreneurial project has not yet been incorporated as a company may participate; they may, however, operate as self-employed. These projects will also have the opportunity to participate in future calls of the acceleration programme, provided the idea is pursued through company incorporation.
INCIBE works tirelessly to strengthen digital trust in Spain, raise cybersecurity and resilience standards, and contribute to the digital market. Its objective is to promote the safe use of cyberspace by encouraging safe practices and raising society’s awareness of the importance of cybersecurity.
As a collaborating organisation in the programme, BIC Euronova will deliver acceleration programmes, talks, workshops, events and incubation services to the participants. This joint effort will enable participants—whether individuals, entrepreneurs and/or companies—to build a strong foundation in cybersecurity knowledge, which is crucial to operating safely in today’s digital environment. Spain ranks third worldwide by share of detected cyber threats (6%), close to Japan and Poland.
INCIBE Emprende
INCIBE’s cybersecurity entrepreneurship initiatives target entrepreneurs and start-ups with innovative ideas and projects at the stages of idea capture, incubation, acceleration and express acceleration. All these actions form part of the National Programme to Promote the Cybersecurity Industry, contributing to the emergence, growth and development of companies in the sector. This programme, implemented under INCIBE Emprende, is set out in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) under Component 15, Investment 7: Cybersecurity—strengthening the capacities of citizens, SMEs and professionals and boosting the sector.
These initiatives are carried out within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union (NextGenerationEU)—the Government of Spain’s roadmap to modernise the Spanish economy, recover growth and job creation, and ensure solid, inclusive and resilient economic reconstruction after the COVID-19 crisis, while addressing the challenges of the coming decade.
