Launch of AIR-Andalusia, the Andalusian artificial intelligence and robotics node, with BIC Euronova as a partner
AIR-Andalusia to open its first call for services for SMEs, mid-cap companies and public bodies in April 2026
On 17 February, the AI building at the University of Granada (UGR) hosted the technical launch meeting (kick-off) of AIR-Andalusia, Andalusia’s European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) specialising in artificial intelligence and applied robotics, of which BIC Euronova is a partner.
Coordinated by the AI Granada Research & Innovation Foundation, the project has a budget of over €5 million and is 50% co-financed by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme.
The event brought together representatives from the 20 consortium member organisations, marking the official start of an initiative that will run until January 2029. Its aim is to accelerate the digital transformation of Andalusia’s business base, with a particular focus on SMEs, mid-cap companies and public administrations.

A strategic consortium for Andalusia
AIR-Andalusia brings together universities, technology centres, science parks, business associations and other key stakeholders from the Andalusian ecosystem:
Fundación AI Granada Research & Innovation (coordinator), Universidad de Granada, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad de Jaén, Universidad de Córdoba, Universidad de Huelva, AICIA, CETEMET, BIC EURONOVA, Innova IRV, Fidesol, Cámara de Comercio de Linares, Málaga Tech Park, Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (CTA), Confederación de Empresarios de Andalucía (CEA), On Tech Innovation, Parque Tecnológico de la Salud, Chambers of Commerce of Andalucía, Fundación Progreso y Salud, and the Digital Agency of Andalucía.
Specialist services to drive digital transformation
AIR-Andalusia is designed as a regional infrastructure for advanced digitalisation. Its operating model combines diagnostics, expert support and impact measurement. Its main pillars include:
· Test Before Invest: access to advanced technology infrastructures—such as supercomputers and robotics laboratories—to validate solutions before investing. This also includes digital maturity assessments, sector analysis, technology barometers and strategic surveys to help organisations understand their baseline and define a data-driven, tailored roadmap.
· Training and education: specialised programmes for professionals, with a particular focus on senior leaders (CEOs) and public sector managers, aimed at the practical application of AI and robotics in real-world environments.
· Investment support: guidance on access to public and private funding, including identification of financial instruments, proposal preparation and connections with investors.
Ecosystem and networking: links with the European EDIH Network and strategic initiatives such as AI-on-demand and AI Factories, strengthening Andalusia’s position on the European AI map. The hub will also organise professional meet-ups, peer exchange sessions and sector events to promote collaboration between companies, technology centres, universities and public administrations.
Expected impact until 2029
AIR-Andalusia has set ambitious targets for the coming years, including supporting 1,330 organisations in their digital transformation and providing support to more than 2,000 SMEs.
The project will cover the whole of Andalusia and aligns with the region’s Smart Specialisation Strategy (S4Andalucía), prioritising sectors such as sustainable agri-food, smart industry, health and biotechnology, sustainable tourism, the circular economy and renewable energy.
Next steps
Following this technical meeting, the consortium will hold the official public presentation of the project to Andalusia’s business and institutional ecosystem on 23 March.
All information on calls, services and access to the hub will be published on the official website: https://www.airandalusia.es/
